Sūrya Namaskāra A
Repeat 5 times.
The backbone of the Ashtanga system is Sūryanamaskāra, the Salutation to the Sun. Sūrya Namaskāra A has 9 'vinyasa'. For each movement, there is one breath. Vinyasa essentially means synchronization of the breath with movement, and that synchroinicity is at the heart of the practice.
Practising Sūryanamaskāra on a regular basis also helps develop strength and stamina, whilst toning and lenghtening muscles throughout the body.
